Once again, the daily writing prompt seems to be drawing me back to something I have already discussed here. I am sorry to have become so boring and repetitive. I suppose this means that I am in fact answering the prompt honestly, with a useless fact that I love to share.
One of my favorite useless facts is this: the words overwhelmed and underwhelmed both actually mean the same thing. Consider the meaning of the transitive verb “whelm”.
Whelm: to turn (something, such as a dish or vessel) upside down usually to cover something : cover or engulf completely with usually disastrous effect
Merriam-Webster Dictionary
Therefore, to be “overwhelmed” is to be capsized by the crest of a wave, to be pushed over by the wave. While to be “underwhelmed” means to be capsized by the trough of a wave, to be pulled under by the wave — either way, you have been “whelmed.”
There are a few other useless facts that I will occasionally share, if anybody will listen. One being the celebrities with whom I share a birthday (Its coming up soon!)
