“I lost the socks for my hands.”
There was a certain little school girl this winter who seemed distressed while stepping off the school bus. She was upset because she had lost her mittens. But just at that moment she could not recall the word mitten and through her sobs she told me that she lost “the socks for her hands”.
It was sad to witness her distress, yes. But I also found the description of mittens as “socks for your hands” to be incredibly funny in that moment.
