How do I use social media? The most accurate answer is that I really don’t use social media. Perhaps as a more cynical response I would say “you don’t use social media; social media uses you!”

There’s a saying about all these web based services that goes something like “If you aren’t paying for the service, you aren’t the customer, you’re the product.”

I don’t have any of the mainstream social media platforms

• I don’t have facebook
• I don’t have instagram
• I don’t have X/twitter
• I don’t have Snapchat.
• I don’t have WhatsApp (is that still a thing?)
• I don’t have Discord.
• I don’t have Linkedin
• I don’t have Reddit

I don’t become embroiled in political arguments. I don’t debate with either the advocates or the opponents of various social causes. I don’t share my great grandmother’s recipes.
so I guess that’s how I don’t use social media.
