I am not a disorganised individual. I do not struggle to keep track of items essential to my daily life. However, there are three distinct places where I frequently seem to accumulate clutter.
The Dining Room Nook.
In the corner of my dining room there is a small desk where I usually use my MacBook if I need a physical keyboard (I usually just use an iPad for causal browsing). This desk is the repository for all the not-quite-junk mail, random forms and documents, my church offering envelopes and other assorted bits and bobs. This little desk does become cluttered and every once in a while I have to sort through everything just to make sure I haven’t misplaced an important document, missed the due date for a bill or the deadline for some forgotten project. I really should keep it organised.
The Bedroom Book Stacks
I don’t have a dedicated room for my personal library. I’m not living in some posh estate. I keep most of my books in my bedroom. I must admit that I am a bit of a book hoarder. I don’t enjoy reading on an iPad or Kindle. Aside from a general dislike of staring at a screen for prolonged periods of time, I have a thing about actually owning my books. I have an actual bookshelf which is filled with reference books and novels which I have read, but love too dearly to part with. I end up with a few crooked stacks of new books that I will eventually read … someday. Probably. Unless I break down and listen to the audiobook while I drive. I could probably store and organise my books more neatly.
Rubbish in the Automobile
It’s shameful really, but my car seems to gather up all sorts of trash of its own accord throughout the working week. There are a handful of paper bags from the local bakery on the passenger seat. I’ve stashed toll receipts into the storage cubby. The rear seats are occupied by snow-brushes and a bottle of windscreen solvent. I really must de-clutter before somebody asks me for a lift.
