There are several movies that I watch at specific times every year. These movies have become a part of my seasonal traditions and at this point I’ve definitely watched them more than five times. Before you ask — No, Die Hard is NOT one of my seasonal movies. Is it a Christmas movie? If it’s part of your Christmas tradition then the answer is yes. But Die Hard is actually a morality tale about two pitfalls of modern life.
First, the folly of fraternizing with coworkers at holiday parties.
Second, the folly of trying to save doomed relationships through trauma-bonding.
With that out of the way, here are some of the movies I’ve watched more than five times.
I’m a big fan of John Carpenter. I like to watch Christine at end of summer or the beginning of the School Year.
Every year I watch Contagion as part of my (American) Thanksgiving weekend.
Every year, but not at any specific time, I watch Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan.
Around Halloween, I like to watch my favorite James Cameron sequels — Terminator 2 and Aliens.
Returning to John Carpenter, I watch The Thing as part of my Christmas break.
As winter finally begins to give way to spring I’ve found myself watching The Book of Eli, The Road and the Coen Brothers True Grit remake.
There are a lot of other movies I’ve watched more than five times. I don’t think there any complete TV series I’ve watched in their entirety more than twice.
