The straightforward answer to this writing prompt is that I have not visited any place that feels like home.
I am a homebody. I don’t actually travel much. That has more to do with my economic situation than my lack of desire to see other parts of the world. Many of the places I have visited, at least in terms of their general geography, are so close to home that they already feel familiar; but even in that way they do not feel like my home.
It has been more than 25 years since I last stayed in a hotel. It has been twice that long since I was anything more than a day-guest in somebody else’s home. I do not have close acquaintances with whom I might spend an entire weekend.
There is no place like home away from home.
