With the recent or impending demise of some fan favorite television programs, its re-assuring to know that one series will be returning this summer.
HBO recently made the official announcement that their southern vampire series True Blood will be returning for a third season beginning June 13 2010. Fans will be waiting eagerly for the season premiere. The season two cliff-hanger seems like forever ago. If you’ve been living in a cave and somehow managed to miss the first and second seasons of this series, the summer premiere date leaves you a little time to catch up with the series on DVD.
True Blood is based on the “Southern Vampire” series of novels by Charlaine Harris and follows the all too often supernatural life of Sookie Stackhouse in the vampire infested parish of Bon Temps Louisiana. Thankfully True Blood stands apart from the sudden resurgence of young adult or teen oriented, Twilight inspired vampire dramas. There’s plenty of steamy sex scenes and just enough gore to keep True Blood firmly in the realm of “obviously for adults”.
The first season of True Blood premiered during a period of intense hype surrounding the release of the first Twilight film. Several networks attempted to ride the wave of renewed interest in vampires generated by that films anticipated success.
