Did you see Tron Legacy? It was better than Avatar.

So did you see Tron Legacy? It was much better than Avatar. There I said it.

I  managed to get to the theater opening weekend. That is an achievement considering how much  I loathe crowds. The kids next to me  were incredibly annoying. The teenage girl continuously checked for messaged on her incredibly bright phone while the younger boy kept kicking me. Yeah hell really is other people.

Tron Legacy has eye candy – Beau Garrett

Apparently, the digital world of Tron has some fine looking pixels. Beau Garrett is “Gem”, a Siren. She works in the armory underneath the disc game arena along with three other sirens (Serinda Swan, Yaya DaCosta, and Elizabeth Mathis) outfitting programs with armor for the games.

That’s what now? She’s a digital arms dealer in tight plastic pants? Wow. It’s too bad I work in vector graphics. The women in my digital world always seem so “cartoony”.

Daft Punk “Tron Legacy Soundtrack”

I know you’ve been anticipating the release of  Tron Legacy ever since the E3 presentation. I also know that ever since it was announced that Daft Punk was composing the soundtrack a lot of you were also eager to hear a new Daft Punk record. After all, it has been a while since the robotic duo, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, released a proper album. Is the this the album you’ve been anticipating, or just another soundtrack? Well let me be clear: The “Tron legacy Soundtrack” is not the new Daft Punk album you’ve been waiting for.

Its not that the soundtrack is bad. On the contrary it is incredible. But, it may be  more fitting to call this work a ‘film score’, rather than a ‘movie soundtrack’. It would have been a terrible mistake to simply re-mix Daft Punk singles and attempt to marry them to the visual experience of Tron Legacy.

What the duo have composed instead has an epic momentum. This soundtrack is a collection of sweeping digital orchestral arrangements punctuated by appropriately low-res syth effects. I highly recommend you pick it up. It sounds amazing through a good pair of headphones.

Tron Legacy has eye candy – Olivia Wilde

After the amazing press campaign at E3, I can hardly wait to see TRON Legacy. When I was a kid The original TRON was pretty cutting edge stuff. Of course now the 1982 visual effects appear somewhat ‘primitive” by to standards of today’s tech savy kids. But come on … who didn’t love light cycles?

The next generation of  visual effects won’t be the only visual stimulation in TRON Legacy.  A healthy dose of Olivia Wilde  will help offset the geek-tech factor.

Tron introduced concept of  a digitial state of being, which  even pre-dated ‘Neuromancer’, the seminal work of cyberpunk fiction by William Gibson (who is often credited as the father of cyberpunk fiction).
