Nikitia – How did CW manage to mess up hot girls with guns?

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? Somehow the CW has managed to fail with a new series … again. This time with Nikita. If you’re not familiar with the title, it is a re-vamped version of the French Film La Femme Nikita which was already re-made as the film Point Of No Return starring Bridgett Fonda and the TV series La Femme Nikita featuring Peta Wilson.

I didn’t think you could make a bad TV series in which Maggie Q walks around in lingerie and fires automatic weapons. That should have been a fool proof recipe for success. You really should watch the pilot episode just to see the scenes I was describing. Then you should change the channel and deny having ever watched the CW.

The writing is contrived and formulaic. The acting is mostly flat an emotionally un-invested. Even Maggie Q seems to be going through the motions without conviction.  They should have written her character as cold and detached because Maggie is excellent in such roles Her part in 2007’s Live Free or Die Hard may have been small but she was perfect for the part.

Remember Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse? Yeah. Should have been awesome but fell flat. Poor casting choices such as Tahmoh Penikett and an FBI agent disrupted  the continuity of the show. For Nikita, Shane West does his best impression of Henry Rollins but is also unconvincing in the role of a hard boiled agent.

The new series seems to borrow heavily from the earlier TV series and English language film. I’ve never seen the French Language film so I cannot sow to what extent the CW follows the original plot.

If I were you,  I would watch Fringe instead.
